Titchwell Marsh Nature Reserve, Titchwell

Titchwell Marsh is one of the RSPB’s most visited reserves. Follow several nature trails to spot ducks, waders, geese and seabirds. There are also avocets and terns, bitterns and marsh harriers and a visitor centre, where you can learn more about your surroundings.

Seal Trips, Morston Quay

Watching seals at home in their natural environment on Blakeney Point (also a well-known breeding ground for waders and terns), is a popular boating excursion. Boats leave from Morston Quay and the trip lasts for one hour, but if weather conditions are favourable, boats will land on Blakeney Point for an additional 30-60 minutes.

Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens

If you love nature, wildlife and the great outdoors, then this is just the place to head for. Situated near Fakenham, Pensthorpe is a magical mix of superb nature trails, beautiful gardens and fascinating wildlife. Bisected by the River Wensum, the park covers 700 acres.

Walking - Beaches

This breathtaking stretch of coastline offers enormous scope for all kinds of walking – long, short and somewhere in-between. One of the most popular haunts of walkers is the region’s remote Holkham Beach, immortalised in the film Shakespeare in Love, and the vast expanse of sand at Brancaster Beach. Perfect places to enjoy wild beauty and stunning wide skies.

Walking - Long Distance Paths

If you enjoy sampling long-distance paths or for something with a real sense of adventure, try the 93-miles Peddars Way and North Norfolk Coast Path, which in places runs alongside a vast landscape of salt marshes, creeks and mudflats.

Cley Marshes Bird Reserve, Cley-next-the-Sea

NWT Cley Marshes is Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s oldest and best known nature reserve. The shingle beach and saline lagoons, along with the grazing marsh and reed bed support large numbers of wintering and migrating wildfowl and waders, as well as bittern, marsh harrier and bearded tit. Fabulous eco-friendly visitor centre with cafe, shop and viewing areas.

Holkham National Nature Reserve, Holkham

Holkham National Nature Reserve stretches from Burnham Norton to Morston and covers about 4,000 hectares. Windswept tidelines, a maze of creeks and saltings, miles of dunes and sandspits, shady pinewoods, green pastures and marshes: the mix of habitats and the blend of wildlife make the reserve a unique place, somewhere to catch your breath in a busy world.

Burnham Overy Staithe Beach

If you want to escape the crowds then seek out the beautiful secluded beach at Burnham Overy Staithe. Park on the hard in the village (free) and follow the easy and flat path along the raised bank for just over a mile to reach the board walk leading through the dunes to the gap at Gun Hill. Enjoy the peace and quiet, the big skies and the vast expanse of sandy beach - walk east to Wells-next-the-Sea or west to Brancaster.

Horsey Beach

From late October to February, Horsey Beach is filled with seals and their pups. It's a beautiful spot to take a stroll by the sea.
