South Downs Way

The 90-mile chain of the South Downs represents some of the finest walking in southern England and is protected by National Park status. Across this down land runs the South Downs Way, one of Britain’s most popular long-distance trails and radiating off the route are scores of footpaths and bridleways.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve

Explore the seashore, saltmarsh, shingle and gravel pits of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve via a network of level footpaths and discover a wealth of birdlife - four hides offer the chance to see summer and winter migrants at close quarters. Rest and refuel in the contemporary Discovery Centre (cafe, information, sightings) overlooking the marshes.

Ashdown Forest

This is Winnie-the-Pooh country where you can rekindle cherished memories of AA Milne’s wonderful stories from childhood. Ashdown Forest, the real-life setting for Winnie-the-Pooh, represents the largest area of uncultivated land in south-east England, covering about 20 square miles, with great views of the South Downs. Stunning walks and wildlife.

Cuckmere Haven & The Seven Sisters

Cuckmere Haven, Firle Beacon, the River Ouse and the chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters are just some of the cherished South Downs landmarks popular with ramblers and walkers in East Sussex. The South Downs Way is a spectacular way to take in this fine landscape.

Ditchling Beacon

Ditchling Beacon is located 7 miles to the north of Brighton and just south of the village of Ditchling. At 248 metres above sea-level, it is the highest point in East Sussex and offers commanding 360 degree views from its summit. Look south out to sea, north across the Weald or east-west across the Downs. Fabulous walking too.

Beachy Head

Dramatic windswept headland with a sheer 534ft drop to the wave-lashed lighthouse below, which is best seen from near the parking area where the road makes a hairpin turn. View extends east to Dungeness and west to Isle of Wight on a clear day. Famous for its white cliffs and the dramatic, undulating coastline created by the Seven Sisters.
