The two inns
Set beside a quiet lane deep in the Somerset countryside south
of Bath, the striking 17th-century Holcombe
Inn has been lovingly restored with passion and pride
over recent years. It's now a popular country hideaway (cosy rooms)
and perfect for visiting Wells, Glastonbury and Georgian Bath, just
12 miles away. The beamed bar and dining areas are full of
traditional charm with stone-flagged floor, old settles, an
eclectic mix of dining tables and chairs, and a wood burning stove
pumps out heat on cold winter days. The garden is fabulous and
you'll find a cool little cabin for two in the tranquility
This refurbished King
John Inn, surrounded by the thatched cottages and
flower gardens of Wiltshire's picturesque Tollard Royal, strikes
the ideal balance between rustic hideaway and relaxing village pub.
The kitchen produces a best-of-British menu featuring fresh fish,
game, meat and vegetables, all sourced locally. And in the warmer
months, a large terraced garden complete with outdoor kitchen,
offers relaxed alfresco dining. Guests can stay overnight in one of
eight beautifully appointed bedrooms.
