North England

Ivy Cottage is a stunning three-bedroom cottage nestled in Crayke, an idyllic village in North Yorkshire which enjoys fantastic views across Vale of York and is within easy reach of the medieval city of York, Castle Howard and the North Yorkshire Moors.

The cottage sleeps up to six guests and is dog-friendly. Expect a good-sized kitchen, extremely comfortable beds, a walk-in shower and bathtub, and a glorious south-facing garden with bicycle storage. A home from home with The Durham Ox just a walk up the road if you fancy a night off cooking.

 

Hidden in the historic village of Romaldkirk, next to the 12th century church of St Romald and amidst stunning Teesdale countryside, you'll find Monk's Cottage, an idyllic 17th century stone cottage tucked behind The Rose and Crown.

The cottage has a country-contemporary feel to the décor but oozes character with big ceiling beams, exposed stone walls and plenty of opportunities to bang your head!

Find two beautiful bedrooms with en-suites, a cosy sitting room, a study area and small galley, and wonderful views over the village green and church. Plus, there is a 'boot room' to clean and store your muddy walking kit after a countryside amble.

 

3. The Joiner's Arms, Alnwick, Northumberland

Castle View Cottage sleeps six

Just a two-minute stroll from The Joiner's Arms, the light and charming three-bedroom, self-catering Castle View Cottage is the perfect coastal bolthole for all the family, with a private garden area located just a stone's throw from the beach.

It features two double bedrooms, a third bedroom with bunk beds and a spacious living/dining area, perfect for relaxing in after a long day at the beach. Plus, it is dog-friendly and has its own private driveway.

 

Enjoy fabulous views over the River Hodder to the fells at The Piggeries, a beautifully restored and delightfully furnished self-catering, three-bedroomed cottage, just a short stroll from the Inn at Whitewell.

Downstairs, you'll find a large, well-equipped kitchen/dining room with a range cooker, dishwasher and washer/drier, and two sitting rooms with open fires. Upstairs are three double bedrooms. The largest bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, one of the double bedrooms can be made into a twin, and there is a family bathroom with separate shower.

If you don't feel like cooking one evening, either stroll up to the inn for a delicious meal or have the chef's delights delivered to you. The inn's housekeeping staff will visit daily to make beds.

 

5. The Old Hall Inn, Chinley, Derbyshire

Spring Cottage sleeps four

Settled in a sleepy village in glorious Peak District countryside opposite The Old Hall Inn & Paper Mill Inn is Spring Cottage, a semi-detached self-catering cottage nestled in the hamlet of Whitehough with two double bedrooms (on request, one of the rooms can be made into a twin room) and brilliant views over the Peaks.

It also offers a fully equipped kitchen and washing machine, a lounge with an On Demand TV, large DVD collection and open fire, and a private sun terrace complete with a BBQ, garden furniture and stunning peak views. The cottage also has a cycle store.

6. The King's Arms, Didmarton, Gloucestershire

Saracen Cottage sleeps six; Bobtail Cottage sleeps four

When it comes to a quintessentially English countryside setting, the rural splendour of the Cotswolds is the classic choice and the stylish 17th century King's Arms and its two cottages are at the heart of it all.

Once the stables of the original King's Arms, the two spacious self-catering cottages are ideal for families and larger parties looking for their own private Cotswolds hideaway. Saracen sleeps six and Bobtail sleeps four.

Carefully appointed with dark wooden beams and brown leather sofas, both cottages are the perfect retreats for some rest and relaxation. You'll find a cosy sitting room, dining area, fully equipped kitchen and washing machine in both. Daily room service is available, and for a little extra, you can have breakfast delivered every morning.

 

7. The Swan Inn, Swinbrook, Oxfordshire

Riverside Cottage sleeps up to 10 people

Set in a magical riverside setting and built of Cotswold stone, Riverside Cottage is as pretty as a picture. It contains five double rooms, each with their own en-suite bathrooms (two have a roll-top bath), plus a glorious, secluded garden at the back which overlooks the beautiful Windrush Valley.

Enjoy food in The Swan Inn just a stroll across the road, or on a wonderfully sunny day, have your food and drink brought to you so you can enjoy it in the private garden away from the hubbub of the inn.

 

Known as the 'Little House' on its original deeds and dating back to 1641, this cosy Cotswold's cottage was the former house for the adjoining Malt house, now known as The Feathered Nest Country Inn.

Great care has been taken to combine a pared down style of honest creature comforts and modern luxury, whilst still boasting key original features of flagstone flooring, exposed fire mantle and wooden beams.

Positioned in the picturesque village of Nether Westcote, you are perfectly placed to explore the beautiful Cotswolds' countryside and make the most of our stunning views over the Evenlode valley, all with the unique culinary experience of The Feathered Nest at your disposal next door.

Inside you'll find a roaring wood burner, a double bed and sofa bed, a microwave, kettle and toaster, and a freestanding bathtub.

Minimum 2-night stay, sleeps up to four people and dogs are welcome too. From £495 per night with breakfast included.

 

The Borders

The Stables is located beside the 16th century Lion + Pheasant at the bottom of Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury's famous street lined with independent shops. Its first floor open-plan living room, kitchen and dining area is a contemporary space designed for comfort and relaxation. The Stables provides a double bedroom with en-suite shower room, and twin room with en-suite bathroom.

 

10. The Hopton Crown, Hopton Wafers, Shropshire

Clee Cottage and Duck Pond Cottage sleep four

Clee Hill Cottage and Duck Pond Cottage sit by a babbling stream and duck pond in the grounds of The Hopton Crown, a 16th century inn set below Clee Hill in rolling Shropshire countryside.

Each have two en-suite bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a private garden with a Jacuzzi hot tub. They are perfect boltholes for exploring the area and both are child- and dog-friendly.

 

11. The Castle Hotel, Bishops Castle, Shropshire

The Elephant Gate House sleeps six

The Elephant Gate House is a Grade II listed stone building built over 300 years ago as stables for The Castle Hotel. It is known locally as The Elephant House because for a brief period during the last war, it was used to house homeless circus elephants.

This delightful cottage is located next to The Castle Hotel in Market Square. It offers three double bedrooms, a living room with a smart TV and log burner, a kitchen with a oil-fired cooking range, and a small private garden and balcony off the Master Bedroom overlooking The South Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Dogs are welcome and stay free of charge.

 

South England

12. Crab & Lobster, Sidlesham, West Sussex

Crab Cottages sleeps four

Adjoining the 16th century Crab & Lobster is dinky Crab Cottage, a swish little self-catering option which combines modern and traditional styles for your comfort and is only a stone's throw from picturesque Pagham Harbour.

The cottage offers two double bedrooms, a sitting room, a fully kitted-out kitchen, and a little terrace garden.

 

13. The Royal Oak, East Lavant, West Sussex

Two cottages which both sleep four

Find The Royal Oak tucked away in a sleepy village below the South Downs, with Goodwood's many delights close by. There are two smart self-catering and dog-friendly cottages across the road from the pub, each featuring two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a private terrace with outdoor seating - perfect for alfresco dining!

Authentic cottage interiors, simple decor and classic styles set the tone, with peaceful rooms and spotless contemporary bathrooms featuring power showers and local aromatherapy toiletries. When slumber calls you can slip between Egyptian cotton sheets for a refreshing night's sleep.

 

14. The Museum Inn, Farnham, Dorset

Moles Cottage sleeps sixteen

Discover Moles Cottage in East Dorset, nestled in the pretty village of Farnham which is surrounded by serene Cranborne Chase, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.

With eight en-suite rooms - six king-size doubles and two zip and link twin bedrooms - the thatched cottage can accommodate up to sixteen people, ideal for large get-togethers, extended family breaks and shooting parties. Daily housekeeping is available if you wish.

Luxurious home comforts include a huge log fireplace, a well-appointed kitchen with a double oven, six ring gas hob and a large Smeg fridge, antique furnishings, and a private patio and garden overlooking the surrounding fields. The cottage also benefits from a private walled driveway and parking.

Sitting next to The Museum Inn means if you would like a night off cooking, you haven't got to go far for a delicious meal.

 

15. Three Daggers, Edington, Wiltshire

Hillside Cottage sleeps twelve

Hillside Cottage is the ultimate English countryside experience, a private retreat featuring six stunning en-suite rooms decorated in country-chic style, a formal living room and fully equipped kitchen. Rooms work as an overflow to the Three Daggers, but the cottage is popular with groups of friends and family gatherings.

Extra chill out space includes an outdoor plunge pool, hot tub, wet and dry sauna barn, bocce and croquet courts, and Trailhead Cabin, which offers a dartboard, games, wood burning stove, and outdoor fire pit. Massage and other wellness treatments are available at an additional cost at the on-site spa.

Cooking provisions can be provided from the inn's farm shop.

 

16. The Cary Arms, Babbacombe, Devon

Cove Cottage sleeps six

The Cary Arms offers a selection of characterful and luxurious cottages which are nestled into the cliff side above the inn. You have a choice of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom cottages, sleeping up to nine people, plus two of the cottages are dog-friendly.

One is the three bedroomed Cove Cottage (pictured above). Built in the 1800's, this hidden gem exudes coastal charm with a touch of Romantic Tudor architectural character. Enjoy breathtakingly beautiful sea views from inside and out, three luxurious bedrooms, and a pretty, private terrace and garden.
