Overview

Nestled amongst the stunning Lambourn Valley, the legendary Pheasant is a much-loved countryside inn at the heart of the local horse-racing set. Following the addition of a new-build bedroom extension, the former drovers' retreat is now a rambling roadside pitstop with a pretty refurbished bar and dining rooms that effortlessly ooze rustic-chic charm. Original beams, wood-panelling, stone floors and blazing fires have been beautifully matched with warm rich colours, comfortable cushioned settles, elegant old dining tables and a fine collection of horse-related prints, photos and paintings.

Arrive early to bag the chesterfield sofa in the cosy snug room. The TV remains tuned to the racing, so expect to rub shoulders with jockeys and trainers whilst ordering a pint. For alfresco dining, there are tables and chairs on the grassy area close to the entrance, as well as a small beer garden to the rear of the pub.
