Quiet romance

All cosy, super-smart Shepherd's Huts are set around a pretty pond with firepits, log-burning stoves and a wine fridge

Your canine friend is welcome in all shepherds huts; great local walks too.

Scenic & serene

There's fabulous walking from the front door so bring your boots and explore the beautiful wooded Surrey Hills

Each shepherd's hut accommodates 2 adults and is dog-friendly. It comes with a downy double bed, underfloor heating, log burner and a cosy seating area with games. You'll also find a handy kitchen corner - don't forget to open the fridge door to find your complimentary bottle a local wine, fresh milk and tasty nibbles to enjoy on arrival.

The bathroom includes a luxurious walk in rain shower with toiletries and soft towelling bathrobes. Plus there's a Netflix enabled smart TV and thoughtful little extras including a hair dryer, a hot water bottle… so you can pack perfectly light!

Step outside and discover a firepit that's ideal for marshmallow toasting under the stars, and teak sun loungers primed for curling up with a good book on a sunny afternoon.

Restaurant & bar

Seasonal menus deliver heart-warming traditional pub favourites alongside lazy Sunday roast lunches, sharing platters and more creative daily specials on the chalkboard.

Typically tuck into the likes of ham, egg and chips, steak, leek, stilton and red wine pie, seafood linguine, and 45-day aged sirloin steak with all the trimmings. Ingredients are sourced within 15 miles of the pub and the chefs forage for seasonal fruit and wild garlic.

The local theme continues at the bar with real ales from Surrey brewers (Hogs Back; Surrey Hills; Pilgrim), wines from Surrey vineyards and home-pressed cider from village apples.

Things to do

For something a little different, perhaps a little eccentric and a truly original lifetime experience, why not one of the Llama Picnic Treks from the inn, perhaps a summer evening or a winter morning trek along the Greensand Way into the beautiful Surrey Hills.

Petworth's magnificent late 17th-century country house, set in a 700-acre deer park, is home to The National Trust's finest collection of pictures with numerous works by Turner, Van Dyck, Reynolds and Blake. The servants' quarters contain fascinating kitchens and outside, the grounds, which can be enjoyed by walkers, were landscaped by 'Capability' Brown and immortalised in Turner's paintings.

North of Guildford and close to the A3 and M25 is a tranquil world of unusual plants and beautiful flowers. In the care of the Royal Horticultural Society, Wisley's mission is to share with its many visitors the best in gardening. Wisley may be a peaceful oasis but there's always plenty going on - from world-class flower shows to ground breaking, green-roof research.
